Christmas Devotional

On December 7th Ethan and I were able to go downtown for the First Presidency Christmas Devotional. One of Jim's patients had given him two tickets.   I really enjoyed some one on one time with Ethan.  He is such a great kid.  I also really enjoyed listening to the speakers.  This is such an amazing time of year to reflect on the Savior and be reminded of the true meaning of Christmas.

Trimming the Tree

Technically we put up our tree the last part of November but
we will just post it now when I have finally found a little time put it on the blog.
Lucky is especially excited when we get the Christmas stuff out
because he knows his elf costume is there :)

As a final touch I found a plastic rat on top of our tree a few days later.
Lizzie must have felt it was still missing something.

Christmas Card 2014

A few Harrison moments from 2014……

January- Started the year with a family hike around Antelope Island on January 1, 2014.
January- Afton lost her first tooth.  She will lose five more before the end of the year.  Lilly keeps wondering when her turn is to lose her first tooth.
April- Spent a week as a family exploring the Redwoods, Oregon Coast, and Seattle.  It will go down as  one of our ALL TIME FAVORITE family vacations.
April- Ethan turned 12 (in Seattle) and was ordained a deacon in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints about a week after his birthday.
April- Ethan officially became taller than his 5’6” mom.   By December 2014 our 12 year old son is  5’9”!!!!  He is trying his best to catch up to Jim.
May- Jim has a new office and opened up his first Physical Therapy clinic.  We would like to introduce Mountain View Physical Therapy. Now accepting new patients.  Call now!!!! 801-996-3626.
May- After a 12 year break, Alisha returned to the land of the paid working world.  She gets to work in the office of Lizzie, Afton and Lilly’s school.  She loves it and appreciates this opportunity.   Even better that it is during school hours, summers off, only 17 hours a week and Alisha can see the girls the days she is at work.
June- Sept.  New races for the Harrison family.  Alisha can now check Ragnar off her to do list (June) the kids did their first 5K (Color Run/ August) and Jim, Alisha, Ethan and Lizzie did the Dirty Dash (Sept.)
August- Big moment in the Harrison household as Afton and Lilly started 1st grade.  That means ALL of our kids are in school ALL day.   Definitely a bittersweet milestone.
November-  All 4 kids did a week without any electronics (TV, Wii, computer, Kindle).  We were very proud of how well they all got along, how creative they got and how quickly the week went by.

Thinking of you this holiday season.  Hope you have a Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year!

Love, Jim, Alisha
Ethan (12), Lizzie (10)
Afton (6) and Lilly (6)

November

Before this month disappears and we get into the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, I thought I better post a little bit what we have been up to in November.

Afton got her very first journal.
I thought this was the cutest thing that she wrote on the very first page.

These candlestick holders are a reminder of how lucky I am to have some awesome friends.
A few weeks ago I was with my friend Jody Hadfield and said how much I loved these candlestick holders. Well she brought them over the other day and gave them to me just because.
 Seriously, so lucky!

Once the weather gets colder my children seem to amp up their creative ideas.  This is how Lizzie kept herself busy one night.  She has a whole bunch of plastic cockroaches (don't ask :) and decided to give them all rides on her Squinkies ferris wheel.

One night I was trying to get dinner ready and Lilly was busy at the table playing with Scrabble tiles.  She would keep asking when dinner was done and I would keep answering just a few more minutes.    This was her hint I guess that it was time to eat :)

Lizzie had an optional school assignment of no electronics for a week.  Jim and I decided to have it be for all our kids.  So for a week there was no TV, Wii, Kindle, or computer time.  I was really impressed how well the kids played together and kept themselves busy.  Here are the 3 girls discovering again how much they liked Rainbow Looms.  It has probably sat in their room for 6 months before this day when they discovered it was cool again.

This boy had another birthday!!!! We kinda celebrated all weekend ( and then some) which included going out to dinner with friends, going to see the Wizard of Oz, had a family party celebrating with Morgan and went to USwirl.
Reflections time at the girls school.  They all moved on to the next level (Yeah!!).  Afton and Lilly in dance and Lizzie in Film Productions.  Here is a cute note Lilly wrote the next day about what she thinks about Reflections.

Afton and Lilly have really gotten into helping me cook.
Here is Lilly keeping those noodles stirred :)

Perhaps this will go down as one of my funniest/ most random days at work EVER!!!  A cute little 1st grader came in saying he didn't feel well and wanted to call home.  Before the phone could even start ringing he threw up all over the phone, all over my desk and all over the floor.  Here is the awesome custodian Elisa cleaning it all up for me.  She was my hero that day.  Office had to be closed off for the rest of the day.  Me and the other secretary just spent the rest of the day laughing at the chances of something like that happening.

Me and my friend/ boss/ school principal spent a Saturday driving up to Hooper Utah to get a couch for her house.  We stopped at this drive in called Burger Bar to get a little lunch.  Apparently it was on an episode on Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dive Ins.  We decided to try fried mushrooms and they were so good!!!  We also had hamburgers, fries, drinks and a shake.  It was a good day.

So they also served Rabbit and Camel Burgers.  I wasn't quite brave enough to try them.

And now here comes the Christmas season......
Lizzie has been busy making holiday stuff out of Play-Doh.
I think she did pretty good.

October 31st 2014

Busy but fun night.  My parents came up around 5:30 (actually got pictures of them this time).  We had some chili and headed out for some trick or treating around 6.  My parents stayed until about 7:00 and then headed home. Thanks for coming! After that Lizzie hooked up with a couple of her friends.   Jim took Afton and Lilly around with a few neighborhood dads and their kids.  I stayed home to pass out candy and to chaperone Ethan's Halloween party.

All dressed up ready to start trick or treating

3 girls trick or treating.  So cute!

Afton and Lilly off for some fun!
Back at Home- We told Ethan once he turned 12 it was time to retire from trick or treating. We let him invite some friends over and have a little party instead.  They hung out outside, played some card game called Munchkin, ate lots of food and watched The Hunger Games.
Game Time

And the next day....
This morning consisted of some serious candy trading.
So funny to watch.  It reminds me a little of  stock market trading.  Lizzie will trade almost anything for  Hershey's Bar or a Crunch.  Lilly loves Smarties.  Ethan likes anything non-chocolate and Afton loves Kit Kats. So the trades actually go fairly well with all their different "favorites".

Carving Pumpkins

The Monday night before Halloween we decided to carve our pumpkins.

My parents were nice enough to come up for the night of fun/chaos.  The irony is I have absolutely no pictures with my parents in them.

Sorry mom and dad!

Afton and Lilly digging in

Pumpkin guts anyone?

The finished products:
Mickey Mouse (Liz), Jack Skellington (Jim), a ghost (Lilly), cat (Afton) and the Chesire Cat (Ethan)

Bootiful glow in the dark pumpkins!!!!

Afton was (and still is) so proud of her kitty.

And perhaps the easiest way to decorate a pumpkin :)

Harrison Halloween Party 2014

Jim's family does a Halloween party each year.   This year it was on October 25th.   It is great to  get together for a fun night.  An extra bonus for me is that I just take lots of pictures that day so I don't have to think as much about pictures on Halloween :)
